“It wasn’t a perfect weekend. I had some bad luck and I’m happy with my second place in Race 2. When I passed the riders in front and moved into second position, Toprak already had a big gap. I decided that finishing second was the smart result because catching him would have required taking too many risks. He was very strong, so congratulations to him and BMW.”

“First I would like to say thanks to my team because they did an incredible job the whole weekend. We could improve the bike every session, especially for race two it was really good. I still had a small issue in corner four but anyway, I could manage it in the race. I had a strong pace and was pushing so hard because even though Bulega started from tenth position, I knew he will be fast and will catch up. So I had to push straight from the start. All in all I’m really happy – we did three wins as last year. Now I’m looking forward to the next races. The wins here made me even more motivated and I can’t wait to go to Donington now.”

Danilo Petrucci – 3rd in championship – 179 points
“Compared to yesterday, today the others were faster. I rode a fully defensive race because I knew Nicolò would catch up, but I still tried to attack Locatelli a few times, without success. In the last five laps, the heat was unbearable, sweat was running into my eyes and I could barely see. But I hung in there. This weekend I finished third, fourth and fifth and managed to gain a few points on those behind me.”

Alvaro Bautista – 4th in championship – 172 points
“It’s been a very difficult weekend. The temperature didn’t help and the mornings were better because I could go fast and be consistent. As the track got hotter it became more difficult. In the hot conditions the bike is harder to stop in the low grip and I was pushed wide several times. Yesterday we had the pace for a podium but starting from the back makes it tough here. The field is very close here so it was important I gained positions in the Superpole Race and started better in Race 2. I fought for the podium and I’m happy to finish third. I’m looking forward to improving my feeling and being more competitive.”

Andrea Locatelli – 5th in championship – 157 points
“Finally, we reached a good point and good positions, we found the way to be fast and a good feeling here in Misano! Yesterday we made a good race, but today I think we made a positive step and did a really, really good job so we were able to finish on the podium in the Superpole Race – then a P4 in Race 2. I have a feeling inside like I lost the opportunity to get a second podium in Race 2, but the reality is that I pushed hard and did my absolute best and this was the maximum result that we were able to get at the moment. Top five is not bad and we got a lot of points for the championship, because in the last couple of rounds we missed a lot. I want to continue like this with strong results and focus on the next one. I hope until the end of the season we can have some really good weekends, get some podiums and let’s try to push for another victory.”

Alex Lowes – 6th in championship – 85 points
“I was really happy about the first race today. Track position is so important. I got in a good position behind Toprak Razgatlioglu and I had two or three really strong early laps. The last three laps were a long three laps! I am really happy for the team to get a podium. Everyone is working hard at the track, away from the track, so to take a podium finish is a good indication of our progress. Obviously, having the test here before the race weekend really helped with the bike set-up. I don’t feel as negative about the final race as the result was. I felt quite good in the final part of the race so I thought I could pass Danilo. The crash was a case of trying to go faster when I was already fast. The bike was damaged but I jumped back on and I was still able to do 1’34 laps at the end. The positive thing is that we were, even in these more extreme temperatures, still fast on the bike. This is the first proper hot race we have had. Overall, I am happy with the weekend. I think we did a good job and we can take a lot of information and positives into the next round.”

Iker Lecuona – 8th in championship – 84 points
“I’m really happy, honestly. During morning warm-up we made some changes to the setup to help me feel more comfortable. Yesterday, we spent a lot of time talking in the box and realised we were missing something to be able to fight at the front, so we worked to find a solution. I just had a small issue in the Superpole Race with one aspect of the electronics setup, and I was also one of few riders to not use the qualifying rear tyre. That made the start really tough, but even so, I stayed with the group and wasn’t far off. That showed us that if we were able to improve that area of the electronics, we could definitely be in the fight in Race 2 – and we did it! My start was really good – I reacted super well and thought, ‘Wow, that was amazing!’ Once the race got going, I stayed calm, spent a few laps behind some riders, and then started closing the gap and making passes. Over the final five laps I felt really strong. I was with Lowes and Petrucci, and managed to pass Sam at Turn 14 on the penultimate lap. On the last lap I focused on defending my position from Sam and tried to overtake Danilo as well. I got really close, and with one more lap I think I could have made the move, but there just wasn’t enough time. In the end, I’m just really happy. A big thank you to the whole team for their support and for the great work on the electronics today. We’re back in the fight, and I’m really enjoying myself – and that’s the most important thing. Next week I’ll take part in the official test for the Suzuka 8 Hours. I’m really looking forward to it, so thanks to Honda for the opportunity.”

Xavi Vierge – 9th in championship – 83 points
“We need to be happy with the weekend overall, but especially with Sunday, where I feel we took a step forward. The team worked really hard, and we made a small step already in warm-up. Then, from warm-up to the Superpole Race, we adjusted a few more things, including the tyre choice, which I think was the right one for me. I had a really strong Superpole Race – over ten laps I was able to give everything. It’s a pity because midway through the race I was in a good position, but due to a mistake by another rider, I made contact and lost several positions. I tried to recover, but it wasn’t quite enough to get into the top nine. In the final laps I caught up to Iker, but since he’s my teammate and we were only fighting for one point, I couldn’t push too hard, especially considering my physical condition, where I still can’t fully control my body. Anyway, overall still a good race. In Race 2, we knew it would be tough. I made another strong start and was in a good position, but after six laps my body was completely done, and from that point I was just trying to survive. I battled as part of a big group, and in the end, I was able to bring it home in ninth place. I’m really happy with that because the original plan was to skip this race, and in the end we scored quite a few points. So, I’m very thankful to everyone who helped me to be here this weekend, and of course to the team for all their hard work to give me the best possible bike. Now I’ll focus on recovering over the next weeks to try and be as fit as possible for Donington.”

Andrea Iannone – 10th in championship – 68 points
“A negative Sunday and weekend for us in Misano, today everything happened, from the jump start of the Superpole Race, to the infringement of the tyre pressure at the back on the grid and finally the crash at the end, caused by the boot that opened during the laps. I take home the nice comeback I made from the last place on the grid to P8, I hope to start again from those good feelings I had for the Donington Round”

Axel Bassani – 11th in championship – 67 points
“I felt like I braked hard, but at the normal point, into the first corner of the Superpole Race. I tried to find my position on the inside but I was not able to slow down the same way that Bulega did. I tried everything to stop and to not go into him but I lost the front and we crashed. Nothing more to say only sorry. I served my penalty in Race Two. I think even without the crash, it was quite difficult for me to think about a podium today, and Bautista was also quite fast. I could maybe have stayed inside the top five. Until the first race on Sunday, this weekend has been quite good and we were fast.”

Remy Gardner – 12th in championship – 62 points
“Unfortunately the feeling was not too great, but we were still able to battle in the sprint race, trying our best to secure a good result and a decent starting grid position for Race 2. At the end we managed to finish eighth, which wasn’t great, but not too bad either. We then tried to improve the performance in the afternoon, but the feeling was not amazing overall to be honest. It was enough to try to fight with those around, but unfortunately I was hit by another rider and I couldn’t do anything and the race was over. Not the way I wanted to finish the weekend, but that’s racing. Let’s try to move on and stay positive for the next rounds.”

Michael van der Mark – 14th in championship – 62 points
“We’ve honestly struggled a lot this weekend. We’ve tried so many things with the bike, but it just never got any faster and I never got a good feeling, plus a couple of stupid crashes. Honestly, it was a big mess all in all. But of course, we’ve all tried as hard as we could, we never gave up but it was very difficult. Even race two, the feeling wasn’t there, but at least we’ve scored some good points. I’m not really happy with my weekend but I am really happy for everyone in the team who work non-stop. I’m looking forward to Donington now, we will be ready again.”

Yari Montella – 16th in championship – 46 points
“This morning we had a good warm-up. Unfortunately, in Superpole I ended up in the pack at the first chicane and lost several positions. I was fighting for ninth place but crashed at the final corner, which also affected my starting spot for Race 2, where I began from 13th. I was making a good recovery, getting close to the top 10, but unfortunately had contact with another rider. I’m disappointed to have wasted a Sunday where we could have achieved much more. We’ll be ready for Donington.”

Garrett Gerloff – 17th in championship – 40 points
“Today ended up not so bad. I was a bit frustrated after the Superpole Race because I was in eighth place, then I was just trying my best to stay in the top nine, to try to make sure that I could have a better starting position for Race Two. I didn’t get one, so I was definitely frustrated. We had not the best start in Race Two but we had pretty good pace and I felt better and better the more laps I did, and the more the fuel load started to go down. I finished inside the top ten and it was nice to have a single digit next to my name. We made some progress and I hope we make more in the next race, and keep improving, I hope.”

Jonathan Rea – 18th in championship – 16 points
“The Superpole Race firstly enabled me to start on the third row for the long race. I got some good track position at the start, obviously when there was the carnage with Bulega and Bassani, everything just opened up for me and I found myself sixth or seventh and my race sort of stayed there! Sam Lowes was coming strong at the end and I couldn’t just quite fight with him. My bike was feeling quite good in the cooler conditions, we used the SCQ tyre and it lasted all the race. The feeling going into the long race was a positive one, my starts on the Yamaha R1 have been incredible recently, so I put myself facing down the left-hand side of the track thinking I could run around that group in front. But, I got squeezed wide in T1 and bottle-necked in T2, so any track positions I gained from the start I lost and from that point I was in a group – then lost touch as Lecuona was just riding away from me a little bit, but I was clear from the guys behind. I lost the front in Turn 1 at the apex, it was a strange crash and frustrating because the trajectory of the weekend had been really positive from missing FP1 to finishing seventh in the Superpole Race and it’s unfortunate to end on a tough note.”

Tarran Mackenzie – 21st in championship – 9 points
“It wasn’t our day. The crash during the Superpole race conditioned the rest of Sunday, as although the team worked really hard to fix damage to my bike, there wasn’t quite enough time before Race 2, which meant I was unable to start the last race.”

Zaqhwan Zaidi – 0 points
“We made progress over the course of the weekend, which is positive. Conditions were much hotter than yesterday, but I think overall we improved the race pace today because I see everybody’s lap times were slower, so that’s quite good in terms of our progress. Anyway I will try to work hard and keep the motivation strong for the next races. Thanks to the whole team for all their hard work in challenging conditions this weekend.”

To achieve the hat-trick here at Misano, especially after all the commotion surrounding Toprak’s move to MotoGP, is just an amazing feeling for the team. We’re very proud of what everyone has achieved. It was an indescribable weekend for us. On Mickey’s side, it was a tough weekend. I think he showed in the final race with a top ten result that he can also get towards the front. We’ll definitely keep working on that. All in all, BMW as a brand had the perfect showing here – we are incredibly proud and heading to Donington with our heads held high. We’re back in the title fight, and with Toprak’s current momentum, anything is possible. We will give it everything.”

Toprak delivered an outstanding performance, but to put the bike on top three times here at Misano – which is one of the most challenging tracks for us due to the thermal conditions and grip levels – and to set the fastest lap in each race is a complete team achievement. It showcases the strength of the BMW brand, the team, the rider, and the passion we all bring to the table. Unfortunately, the mechanics can’t refresh themselves with a well-deserved ice cream and cold drink just yet – they now have to completely strip down Toprak’s bike for a technical inspection. We’re looking ahead to the outcome with confidence and are already looking forward to Donington.”
Marco Barnabò – Barni Ducati Team Principal
“Today, together with Danilo, we managed to do a good job. He had a strong Superpole, which helped us start well in Race 2. Then during the race, things got a bit more complicated due to the heat, but overall we’re satisfied with the results. We’re still third in the championship with him, so we’re happy. As for Montella, unfortunately, he had a crash in qualifying that affected his long race by forcing him to start from the back. Then in the race, a contact with another rider caused him to crash, so things definitely didn’t go as we had hoped. But now we look ahead to Donington.”

“Sunday in Misano dawned even hotter than yesterday and stayed that way! It was a tough day for the riders and for the crew – both sides of the garage, Yamaha and our Ohlins support engineer worked hard to make small steps forward compared to Race 1 and the work was well-rewarded with Loka’s podium in the Superpole Race – and of course a huge step forward for JR coming through to finish P7 having started from P15 on the grid. Very strong performances by both riders and vastly improving our chances for Race 2 this afternoon with much better grid positions. Andrea gave it everything he had for 21 laps, to be beaten only by Toprak and the two factory Ducatis at their home circuit in Misano is, in reality, the maximum that we could take today. The R1 was working well, Loka maximised both his and the bike’s potential, and sometimes P4 has to be accepted as a positive result. Well done to Andrea and his team on a really strong weekend! JR’s great Superpole ride unfortunately wasn’t able to be built on, as he lost the front at the start of Lap 10 into Turn 1 when lying in a solid P9 and performing well. It’s a real shame because another full race distance would have helped JR take a step back towards his normal level, but there were certainly strong signs of his raw talent and clear ambition today – and we will look forward to maximising those at his home race in Donington next.”

“The home race always has a lot of expectations and you want to give a good weekend to the public and sponsors. Today, however, unfortunately nothing went as it should. On the grid of race 2 our rear wheel lost temperature causing the pressure to drop below 1.65 and we had to start last on the grid. It was our mistake and we take the blame. Andrea was good managing to climb up to eighth position, but a problem with his boot made him get stuck with the footrest, then crashing. A weekend that we didn’t deserve and we will try to turn this negative streak around from the next race, we have the potential to do so. Thanks to everyone who came to visit us here in Misano making us feel their warmth, it was a negative weekend on the track but amazing in terms of people!”
WorldSBK Superpole Race
Pole sitter Bulega’s race ended at Turn 1 after a crash with Axel Bassani (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team). Bassani made a fast start from the outside of the front row but on the inside line he crashed and Bulega was a hapless victim.
With Bulega out of the race Razgatlioglu, using the harder SCX compound tyre, was mistake free from the start. On the opening tour Alex Lowes gave chase but ultimately Razgatlioglu opened a four second lead at the end of the 10 lap race.
Alex Lowes claimed bimota’s first podium since returning to WorldSBK this season. At their home round the Italian manufacturer claimed their first podium since Phillip Island in 2000.
Andrea Locatelli spent the race in third position. The Pata Maxus Yamaha’s performance was his first podium since his Dutch Round victory in April.
A seventh place finish for Jonathan Rea (Pata Maxus Yamaha) his best performance of the season.

WorldSBK Race Two
Starting from pole position Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) led from the start and dominated the 21 lap race. His speed and consistency was incredible as he opened a lead of almost 10 seconds at the end of the race. The Turkish rider set the fastest lap of the race in the early stages of the race. It marked the seventh occasion this season where he has taken the Pirelli Best Lap Award.

Following a Superpole Race crash Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) started from the fourth row of the grid. It took five laps to get into second position with moves being made on Alvaro Bautista, Alex Lowes, Danilo Petrucci and Andrea Locatelli on consecutive laps.

There was little to choose between Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) and his rivals in the early stages but once he overtook Locatelli on Lap 12 he opened a gap of two seconds in the closing stages. The double WorldSBK champion was combative with his teammate in the early laps and he came away with his first podium in six races.

Locatelli’s weekend ended with three top five finishes as he had a faultless day at Misano to finish comfortably ahead of Petrucci. The Barni Spark Racing Team rider spent two third of the race in fifth position but spent the entire race under pressure. At the chequered flag Iker Lecuona was just one tenth of a second behind. The Honda HRC rider overtook Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) on the penultimate lap.

Garrett Gerloff (Kawasaki WorldSBK Team) finished eighth. The American was involved in a five rider scrap in the closing stages but crashes for Andrea Iannone and Scott Redding saw Xavi Vierge and Michael van der Mark round out the top ten.

A red flag on Lap 13, due to a Kaito Toba (PETRONAS MIE Honda Racing Team) crash, saw Can Oncu (Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team) take the honours after an action packed battle at the front.
Oncu spent the early laps battling with Stefano Manzi but on Lap 9 the Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing rider crashed from the lead at Turn 16. The battle at the front was now a four rider group and when the red flag came out Oncu was 0.291s ahead of Jaume Masia (Orelac Racing Verdnatura) and Valentin Debise (Renzi Corse).

“I’m happy because I was really disappointed yesterday. I was sad after making a small mistake but today the team promised me an incredible bike. You could see in the result that this was true! I have to say a big thanks to my team and to Yamaha because they did an amazing job. We focused only on riding and staying consistent. I’m not thinking about the championship because the priority is to be on the podium and to enjoy our racing. After some really difficult times in the past I feel that I deserve to enjoy moments like this.”

Jeremy Alcoba (Kawasaki WorldSSP Team) matched his season’s best result in fifth position. The Spaniard came out of a race long scrap with Roberto Garcia (GMT94-YAMAHA). On his debut weekend in the class the 19 year old impressed to come away with a top six finish.

Bo Bendsneyder could only come away with eighth position. The MV Agusta Reparto Corse drops one place in the standings while a non-score for Tom Booth-Amos (PTR Triumph Factory Racing) sees him now sitting fifth at the halfway point of the campaign.
Oli Bayliss bagged five-points from an 11th place finish on the PTR Triumph which places him 13th in the championship chase with 41 points.

“A really difficult day on Saturday.I didn’t have a lot of feeling on the bike and we were struggling a lot. Today was a step in the right direction. We made good progress but didn’t have the pace to go in the first couple of laps.After that we kept a nice pace until the red flag.”

It was a difficult weekend for Luke Power and wildcard entrant Harrison Voight, both riders failed to finish on Sunday.
Yamaha now holds a 96 point lead over Ducati in the Manufacturers’ Standings.

WorldSSP Championship Points
WorldSSP300 Race Two
A start line incident between Emanuele Cazzaniga (Racestar Trasimeno) and Felix Mulya (ProGP NitiRacing) saw the initial staging of the 12 lap WorldSSP300 race red flagged. As a result the race was reduced to 8 laps when proceedings got back underway. When racing restarted Carter Thompson (MTM Kawasaki) took the holeshot from Jeffrey Buis (Freudenberg KTM-Paligo Racing).
On an action packed final lap the lead changed multiple times in the leading group. Julio Garcia (Prodina Kawasaki Racing Sport) led out of the final corner but on the drag to the line he was slipstreamed by Benat Fernandez. The Team#109 Retro Traffic Kove rider’s second victory of the season came after leading just one lap in the final metres.

“This weekend was very important for us. We’ve now finished the first half of the season and we can fight for the championship. I feel good and we are calm because we are all really close in the standings. I’m happy because I won this race. It was our target for this weekend even if it wasn’t fully expected. We need to keep working and performing well every weekend. It’s definitely better for us to be at the front but in every race it is crazy. You are always in a group and you need to be ready for anything. We just need to keep working hard.”

Just 0.035s covered the podium with David Salvador in third position. The Team ProDina XCI rider had a Long Lap Penalty in the early laps but kept a cool head to get back into victory contention for the final laps. He held off his teammate Antonio Torres and Race One winner Carter Thompson to take the final step on the podium.

It was a great weekend for Thompson that saw him move from seventh to fifth in the championship standings with victory on Saturday, then strengthen that fifth place ranking with another strong points haul on Sunday.

Carter Thompson – P5
“I felt comfortable the whole race and I could make overtakes. I was just managing the race a little bit. I felt I had good pace the whole time and there was a little bit of extra speed I knew I had. I dropped back a little bit further than planned a few times, but I managed to get back up. Overall, it was a good race. We definitely made a step in the last day or two with our set-up. I have got a lot more feeling with the bike now and I can push harder into the corners and I have more trust in the rear tyre.”

Coming into this round Buis was the championship leader but after contact at Turn 11 on the opening lap he settled into the group and finished in tenth position. The Dutchman was less than one second behind the race winner in the closely fight of the lead group.
