Mixed conditions make for a complicated FIM Junior GP event at Magny-Cours

2025 FIM Junior GP Championships
Round Three – Magny-Cours

A dramatic day of racing unfolded at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours as rain added another layer of challenge to the latest round of the FIM JuniorGP World Championship.

Joel Esteban

In the JuniorGP class, Joel Esteban (CFMoto Aspar Junior Team) returned to the top step of the podium, securing his first victory since 2023 in challenging wet conditions.

Alberto Ferrandez

The Moto2 European Championship saw the spoils split between Alberto Ferrandez (GV EBC Moto2) and Alberto Surra (Andifer American Racing), each claiming a race win.

A breakthrough result came in the European Talent Cup, where Kiandra Ramadhipa (Honda – Asia Dream Racing Talent Team) earned his maiden class victory, while Fernando Bujosa (AC Racing Team) claimed his second win of the season.

Kiandra Ramadhipa

In the Stock European Championship, Pier Francesco Venturini (AC Racing Team) took the honours, rounding out a competitive and unpredictable day of racing in France.

JuniorGP

Rain added a dramatic twist to the sole JuniorGP race of the weekend at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, prompting organisers to shorten the race to 10 laps and allow extended sighting time.

JuniorGP Start

Despite the challenging conditions, it was Spain’s Joel Esteban (CFMoto Aspar Junior Team) who rose to the occasion with a remarkable charge from 14th on the grid to claim his first win since 2023.

Joel Esteban

Ireland’s Casey O’Gorman (Estrella Galicia 0,0) delivered another impressive performance to secure second place, while Esteban’s teammate Rico Salmela completed the podium.

Casey O’Gorman

Championship leader Brian Uriarte (UAX SeventyTwo Artbox) got a lightning start and pulled out a commanding lead in the early laps, but his hopes of victory were dashed with a crash at Turn 5.

Rico Salmela

Despite the setback, Uriarte was able to remount and salvage 10th place, limiting the damage to his points lead on a day when the title race tightened once again.

Young Aussie Marianos Nikolis missed out on the points after finishing a lap down in 22nd place.

Moto2 European Championship

It was a tale of two races in the Moto2 European Championship at Magny-Cours, with Alberto Ferrandez and Alberto Surra each taking a victory in dramatically different conditions.

Moto2 Start

In a dry Race 1, Alberto Ferrandez (GV EBC Moto2) made it two wins from the last three races after charging from fourth on the grid to the front of the pack in an eventful 14-lap contest.

Milan Pawelec

The Spaniard was made to work for it, fending off a strong challenge from Milan Pawelec (AGR Team), who pushed hard for his best result of the season.

Xabi Zurutuza

Xabi Zurutuza (Andifer American Racing) completed the podium just over a second off the win, while championship leader Unai Orradre (Team Ciatti – Boscoscuro) settled for fourth.

Moto2 Race One Podium – 1) Fernandez, 2) Pawelec, 3) Zurutuza

Harrison Voight finished a lap down in 18th place.

Alberto Surra

Race 2, however, brought heavy rain and a shake-up to the running order. Alberto Surra (Andifer American Racing) made the most of the conditions, delivering a blistering start and opening a huge gap at the front. The Italian mastered the wet track to take a commanding win — his first of the season — by more than 10 seconds.

Facundo Llambias

In a breakthrough performance, Facundo Llambias (Estrella Galicia 0,0) charged from 15th on the grid to finish second and celebrate his maiden podium. Zurutuza once again showed consistency to secure third and back-to-back podiums.

Moto2 Race Two Podium 1) Surra, 2) Llambias, 3) Zurutuza

Orradre’s second race was complicated by a crash at Turn 13, but the points leader remounted to finish 11th and limit the damage to his title campaign.

Harrison Voight improved to a 14th place finish in the second stanza.

Harrison Voight

“This weekend was a reminder to cherish and appreciate moments with our loved ones, friends and competitors. My condolences to Borja’s family, friends and Team Laglisse… It was a good weekend from my side up until the races. Speeds there just need some luck to show on Sunday… Thank you to my family, friends and Cardoso Racing for their encouragement and support.”

Stock European Championship Race

Pier Francesco Venturini (AC Racing Team) emerged as a first-time winner in a chaotic and incident-filled Stock European Championship race at Magny-Cours, which was ultimately decided after two red flag stoppages.

Pier Francesco Venturini

The Italian was embroiled in a tight battle for second with Tibor Varga (IUM Motorsports S.L) when early race leader Filippo Fuligni (Promo Racing) crashed out of the lead on the exit of Turn 8 on Lap 5.

Tibor Varga

The incident brought out the red flag, and with sufficient laps completed, the results were declared based on the last completed lap.

That elevated Venturini to the top step of the podium, marking his maiden victory and first podium in the class, with Varga promoted to second. Fuligni was classified outside the top positions following his crash.

Archie McDonald survived the carnage to claim a top ten finish, which was good enough for the Australian to retain his third place in the championship standings.

Countryman Declan Van Rosmalen also bagged points from his 13th place finish.

It was the second red flag of the day for the category, after the original start was halted due to a crash involving David Jimenez (MDR Competición), which required extensive clean-up before the race could be restarted.

Stock Podium 1) Venturini, 2) Varga, 3) Garcia

European Talent Cup

ECTC Race 1: Ramadhipa Claims Stunning Maiden Victory

Kiandra Ramadhipa (Honda – Asia Dream Racing Talent Team) stormed to a sensational maiden ETC victory in a tightly contested Race 1, edging out Alvaro Lucas (CFMoto Aspar Junior Team) by less than a tenth of a second at the line.

Kiandra Ramadhipa

Cristian Borrelli (Team Echovit Pasini Racing) also celebrated his first-ever podium in the class, completing the rostrum in third.

Fernando Bujosa (AC Racing Team) delivered a strong recovery ride to finish fourth, despite serving a double Long Lap Penalty for an earlier incident with Lucas at Jerez.

Fernando Bujosa

Reigning champion Carlos Cano (UAX SeventyTwo Artbox) produced a remarkable charge from 26th to the lead group, but a crash at the Imola Chicane ended his run — taking out Alex Longarela (Snipers Igax Team) in the process. Neither rider scored points.

ETC Race One Podium – 1) Ramadhipa, 2) Lucas, 3) Borrelli
ETC Race 2: Bujosa Controls the Wet to Take Second Win of 2025

In a rain-affected Race 2, Bujosa got the holeshot and initially pulled clear, before being reeled in by Longarela.

Fernando Bujosa

The pair broke away from the field, trading the lead and ultimately pulling a four-second gap over Lucas in third to lock out an all-Spanish podium.

Carlos Cano once again mounted a comeback from deep in the field, this time from 27th on the grid, and climbed to an impressive sixth before the race was red-flagged on Lap 7.

The race had already been shortened to 9 laps due to the wet conditions, with additional sighting laps granted earlier in the day.
